Documents checklist
Scan each document in colour; translations certified; bank statements on letterhead or stamped by the branch.
- 1Both passports, the sponsor's British passport or BRP, eVisa share code or settlement letter
- 2Marriage certificate from the Indian registrar; for Sikh or Hindu weddings add the gurdwara or temple certificate and the wedding card
- 3Relationship evidence over time: photographs with dates and places, call logs, WhatsApp history, money transfers, joint travel, visits by the sponsor to India
- 4Arranged-marriage evidence: the introduction through family, engagement (roka or sagai) photographs, the barat and wedding photographs, and statements from both families
- 5Sponsor's 6 months of payslips and the matching 6 months of bank statements showing each salary credit (Appendix FM-SE Category A), or 12 months if in the job under 6 months (Category B)
- 6Sponsor's employer letter on letterhead confirming job title, start date, gross annual salary, type of contract and the period of the payslips
- 7Self-employed sponsor: last full tax year's SA302, tax year overview, business accounts and business bank statements (Category F or G)
- 8Cash savings: 6 months of statements for each account showing the money held throughout, with the source of any lump sum
- 9A1 English test certificate from an approved test provider, or degree certificate with the Ecctis statement of comparability and English medium confirmation
- 10TB test certificate from an approved clinic in India, valid for 6 months
- 11Accommodation: tenancy agreement or mortgage statement, landlord's consent letter, and a property inspection report if the home is shared
- 12Divorce decree or death certificate for any previous marriage of either partner, and your own birth certificate

Does the £18,600 rule still apply to anyone?ShowHide
Only to people who were already on the partner route before 11 April 2024, when they extend or settle. A first application from India today must meet £29,000. The Migration Advisory Committee suggested £23,000 to £25,000, but the government has not changed the rule.
