UK family visas for applicants from India
Direct answer
Partner visa (spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner)
The Partner visa under Appendix FM costs £2,064 from India (fee effective 8 April 2026) plus £3,105 Immigration Health Surcharge for the 33-month grant. Your partner in the UK must be British or settled and must earn at least £29,000 a year, or you need cash savings to make up the gap.
Fiancé or proposed civil partner visa
The Fiancé visa under Appendix FM costs £2,064 from India (fee effective 8 April 2026) and gives 6 months to enter the UK and marry your British or settled partner. No health surcharge is charged for this stage. After the wedding you switch to the Partner visa from inside the UK.
Child visa (child of a settled person or partner)
A child under 18 joining a parent in the UK applies under Appendix FM for £2,064 from India (fee effective 8 April 2026) plus the child-rate health surcharge of £776 a year, £2,328 for a 33-month grant alongside a parent on the Partner visa.
Adult Dependent Relative visa
The Adult Dependent Relative visa costs £3,635 from India (fee effective 8 April 2026) and, if granted to the parent of a British or settled child, gives indefinite leave on arrival. It is the hardest family route in the rules: you must prove you need long-term personal care that cannot be obtained in India even with your child's money.
Parent of a Child Student visa
The Parent of a Child Student visa costs £726 from India (fee effective 8 April 2026) plus the health surcharge at £1,035 a year. It lets one parent live in the UK with a child aged 4 to 11 who holds a Child Student visa at an independent fee-paying school. You cannot work on it.
Dependant partner of a visa holder
A partner joining a Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker pays £819 for a visa of up to 3 years, or £1,618 for longer (fee effective 8 April 2026). A partner of a PhD or government-sponsored student pays £558, and a partner of a Graduate visa holder £937. Add the health surcharge of £1,035 a year, or £776 a year for student dependants.
