Is the UK visa fee refundable if the visa is refused?
No. The Home Office fee is not refunded on refusal. The Immigration Health Surcharge is refunded automatically if the application is refused or withdrawn before a decision.
Why is the rupee figure higher than the mid-market rate?
The Home Office charges in rupees at its own rate, fixed each quarter and reviewed if the market moves more than 5 percent. This calculator uses that rate for the fee lines when it is on record, and prints the date beside it.
How is the health surcharge worked out for a part year?
Per year of the visa granted. A remaining part of up to six months is charged as half a year; more than six months counts as a full year. A one-year master's is usually granted for 16 months, so it pays 1.5 years at the student rate.
Do children pay the full visa fee?
Yes. Every family member, including a child, makes their own application and pays the fee for that route. Under-18s pay the lower health surcharge rate.
