Summary

In short

The Global Talent visa costs £766 in total for applications from 8 April 2026: £561 for the endorsement application and £205 for the visa stage, or £766 in one step where a prestigious prize replaces the endorsement. The health surcharge is £1,035 a year, £5,175 for a 5-year grant, and there is no English test, no job offer and no maintenance requirement. Endorsement usually takes up to 8 weeks, about 3 weeks on the fast track for some academic routes, and the visa decision 3 weeks from biometrics. The mistake Indian applicants make most is letting the endorsement lapse, because the visa must be applied for within 3 months of it.

Information only. We do not file the Global Talent visa. Already in the UK? We refer you to a regulated adviser (OISC or SRA) and charge nothing for the introduction. Applying from India and unsure which route fits? Ask the desk on WhatsApp.

Step by step

Timeline

From the first document to the decision, in the order Indian applicants actually do it.

  1. Step 1: Pick the endorsing body and the path

    Month 1

Academia and research goes to UKRI, the Royal Society, the British Academy or the Royal Academy of Engineering; arts and culture to Arts Council England; digital technology to the designated tech endorser. Exceptional talent and exceptional promise have different evidence rules and different settlement clocks.

  2. Step 2: Build the evidence bundle

    Months 1 to 3

A CV, up to the permitted number of evidence items from the last 5 years, and 3 letters of recommendation from recognised experts who know your work. Evidence must be independently verifiable; self-published claims carry little weight.

  3. Step 3: Endorsement application

    Month 3

Pay £561 and submit to the Home Office, which passes the bundle to the body. Fellowship or senior appointment holders in academia may qualify for the fast track.

  4. Step 4: Endorsement decision

Usually within 8 weeks, about 3 weeks on the fast track

A refusal explains which criteria were not met and can be reviewed. The endorsement letter is valid for 3 months.

  5. Step 5: Tuberculosis test

Within 6 months before the visa application

Attend an approved clinic in India. Each dependant needs their own certificate.

  6. Step 6: Visa application, fee and surcharge

Within 3 months of the endorsement

Pay £205 for the visa stage, £766 per dependant, and the surcharge at £1,035 a year for the length you choose, up to 5 years. Prize winners skip the endorsement and pay £766 in one step.

  7. Step 7: Biometrics and decision

3 weeks from biometrics at VFS

Priority at £500 aims for 5 working days. The passport comes back with a vignette for entry.

  8. Step 8: Travel, work and settlement

Grant, then year 3 or year 5

Enter inside the vignette dates and set up the eVisa; there is no sponsor and you may change jobs freely. Settlement follows after 3 years for exceptional talent and most endorsements, 5 years for exceptional promise, an in-UK step for a regulated UK adviser.

Home Office data

How Indian applicants fare

Indian researchers, doctors in academic medicine, designers, film professionals and tech founders use this route. There is no job offer and no sponsor. The hard part is the endorsement, a peer-reviewed judgement of your record by UKRI, the Royal Society, the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering, Arts Council England or the digital technology endorser. We give information and point you to the right body. Anyone applying from inside the UK should use an adviser regulated there, and we refer you.

Risk

Why Indian applications are refused

  • Endorsement refused: the evidence shows competence but not leadership or potential leadership
  • Endorsement expired, as the visa must be applied for within 3 months of it
  • Evidence from outside the required time window or not independently verifiable
9.2.1

Exclusion or deportation order in force

A mandatory refusal: you were deported from the UK or formally excluded, and that order is still in force. No visa can be granted until the order is revoked.

What to fix: apply for revocation of the deportation order (normally after 10 years, earlier only in exceptional cases) with a UK regulated adviser; do not submit new visa applications while the order stands; each refusal adds to the record.

9.3.1

Presence not conducive to the public good

The officer considers your behaviour, character or associations make you unsuitable, for example extremism, serious dishonesty not covered by other paragraphs, or a pattern of conduct abroad. Used rarely but it is mandatory.

What to fix: obtain the full reasons (ask for the decision notice and consider a Subject Access Request); character evidence and clearance certificates; this ground usually needs legal representation.

9.4.1

Criminality: custodial sentence of 12 months or more, persistent offender, serious harm

A mandatory refusal for a prison sentence of 12 months or more anywhere in the world, or for repeat offending or serious-harm offences. Sentences under 12 months are considered under 9.4.2 to 9.4.5 (discretionary, with time limits for visitors).

What to fix: always declare convictions; non-disclosure leads to a 9.7.1 deception finding on top; for shorter sentences, show the time elapsed and rehabilitation evidence; get the court record and sentence length in English.
