Indian student visa refusals reached 9.1 percent in April to June 2026

Direct answer

Home Office figures show 9.1 percent of Student visa applications from Indian nationals refused in April to June 2026, against 4.2 percent for the year to June 2026. The refusals cluster on maintenance evidence and the credibility interview, both fixable before filing.

The quarterly jump matters because the April to June quarter is when most September-intake files are decided. A rate more than double the annual figure means officers are looking harder at funds and at purpose from Indian applicants, and the pattern the desk sees matches: 28-day balances that dip, loan letters that do not name the course, and interviews where the applicant cannot explain the course choice.

Each refusal on this route cites a paragraph of Appendix Student; the refusal-reasons page for the Student visa decodes them with what to fix. A refused student has no appeal and reapplies, so the Subject Access Request file is worth the month it takes.

The rupee table under this post shows the fee and the surcharge at stake in a refused application: the fee is lost, the surcharge is refunded.
