Step by step

  1. Step 1: Submit and pay on gov.uk first

    The VFS booking site opens only after the visa fee and health surcharge are paid. Keep the GWF reference number; the centre uses it to find your file.

  2. Step 2: Choose Jalandhar or compare with Chandigarh

    If Jalandhar shows no free slot in your window, check Chandigarh and Delhi. Many Doaba applicants drive 2 hours to Chandigarh rather than pay for a prime-time slot in Jalandhar.

  3. Step 3: Decide on add-ons

    Prime Time appointment about ₹2,700 to ₹3,500. Premium Lounge about ₹3,700 to ₹5,000. Keep My Passport When Applying about ₹2,000 to ₹2,500. Courier return about ₹800 to ₹1,200. Form filling about ₹500 to ₹1,000. SMS updates about ₹200 to ₹300. Mobile biometrics from about ₹20,000 plus travel, useful for elderly parents or groups.   4. Step 4: Upload documents in advance

    Use the VFS document upload portal before the appointment. Scanning at the centre is charged per page and slows the queue.

  5. Step 5: Attend the appointment

    Bring passport, appointment letter, printed application, TB certificate original if required, and a parent for any child under 18. Arrive 15 minutes early. Bags are not allowed inside.

  6. Step 6: Give biometrics and leave the passport

    Fingerprints and photo take about 10 minutes. The passport stays with VFS unless you bought Keep My Passport.

  7. Step 7: Track and collect

    SMS and email tell you when the passport is back. Standard decisions take about 3 weeks. Collect in person, send someone with an authority letter, or use the courier.
