VFS Chandigarh for UK visas: biometrics, add-ons and prices

Direct answer

Every UK visa applicant from Punjab and Haryana gives fingerprints and a photo at a VFS Global centre. The Chandigarh centre is in the Elante Mall area of Industrial Area Phase 1. The standard appointment is free; add-ons such as prime time, lounge, keep-my-passport and courier cost between about ₹800 and ₹5,000 each.

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Submit the online application first

    Complete the form on gov.uk, pay the visa fee and the health surcharge, and you are taken to the VFS booking site. You cannot book a biometric appointment without a paid application.

  2. Step 2: Choose Chandigarh and a date

    Free standard slots are released in blocks. If none shows in your window, check the live availability page on Lifeset Overseas for Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Delhi before paying for a prime-time slot.

  3. Step 3: Decide on add-ons

    Prime Time appointment (early morning, evening or weekend) about ₹2,700 to ₹3,500. Premium Lounge with dedicated counter about ₹3,700 to ₹5,000. Keep My Passport When Applying about ₹2,000 to ₹2,500. Courier return of the passport about ₹800 to ₹1,200. Form filling assistance about ₹500 to ₹1,000. SMS updates about ₹200 to ₹300. Mobile biometrics at your home or office from about ₹20,000 plus travel. All figures confidence medium; the VFS website shows the price at booking.

  4. Step 4: Upload documents before the appointment

    UK applications use the VFS document upload portal. Scan every document in colour as PDF and upload before the appointment date. Documents not uploaded can be scanned at the centre for a per-page fee, which is slow and expensive.

  5. Step 5: Arrive 15 minutes early with the right papers

    Bring your passport, the appointment confirmation, the printed application form with the GWF number, and the TB certificate original if your route needs it. No bags or electronics beyond a phone. A parent must accompany a child under 18.

  6. Step 6: Give biometrics

    Ten fingerprints and a photo at the counter. It takes about 10 minutes. The passport is held unless you bought Keep My Passport, in which case you bring it back when the decision is made.

  7. Step 7: Track the decision

    VFS sends an SMS or email when the passport returns to the centre. Standard decisions take about 3 weeks for most routes. Priority of 5 working days and Super Priority of 1 working day are bought on the gov.uk form, not from VFS, and are not always available for every route.

  8. Step 8: Collect or receive the passport

    Collect at the centre with the receipt and ID, or receive by courier if you paid for it. The visa itself is now an eVisa for most routes; the passport carries only an entry vignette or nothing at all, and you create a UKVI account to see your status.

Questions

Does VFS decide my UK visa?

No. VFS only collects biometrics and documents. The decision is made by UK Visas and Immigration. Paying for the lounge or prime time does not affect the outcome.

Can I walk in without an appointment?

No. UK applications need a booked appointment, free or paid. Walk-ins are turned away.

Is Keep My Passport worth it?

Yes if you need to travel or have another visa application running while the UK decision is pending. You must return the passport to VFS for the vignette if one is issued. For eVisa routes with no vignette the service is less useful.

How much is priority service?

Priority and Super Priority are Home Office services bought on the gov.uk form, priced in the fee table of 8 April 2026. See our fee calculator for the rupee amount. VFS add-ons are separate and are paid to VFS.

Can someone else collect my passport?

Yes with a signed authority letter, a copy of your ID and the original receipt, or use the courier service.
