# BRP cards end on 9 December 2026: your eVisa is the only proof of status

From 9 December 2026 the biometric residence permit is withdrawn and UK immigration status is held and proved only through the eVisa and its share code. Indian visa holders who have not created a UKVI account should do so before travelling.

The move from plastic cards to the digital eVisa has been staged since 2024. The calendar date for this post is the withdrawal of the BRP as evidence; after it, airlines, landlords and employers check status through a share code generated from the UKVI account.

New visas granted to Indian applicants are already digital: there is no vignette for most routes and no card on arrival. The practical step is to create the UKVI account with the passport used in the application and to keep the passport details updated when a new passport is issued.

Our sister site covers the eVisa set-up for Indians in detail; we link to it rather than repeat it.
