# Sponsor letter and ties evidence for a UK visitor visa from Punjab

A UK visitor visa is refused under Appendix V 4.2 when the officer is not satisfied you will leave at the end of the visit, and under V 4.3 when the money for the trip is unclear. For Punjab families the two documents that fix both are a sponsor undertaking from the UK relative and clear evidence of the applicant's ties in India: job, business, land, family and property.

## Steps
1. **Decide who is paying, and say so clearly** If the applicant pays, show the applicant's own funds and income. If the UK relative pays, the sponsor letter must say what is covered: flights, accommodation, daily costs, or all. A sponsor who pays everything is fine for parents visiting children. For a cousin or friend visiting, the officer expects the applicant to show their own means.
2. **Write the sponsor letter in this structure** Paragraph 1: sponsor's full name, date of birth, address, immigration status in the UK, relationship to the applicant. Paragraph 2: purpose and dates of the visit and where the applicant will stay. Paragraph 3: what the sponsor will pay for and that the applicant will return to India on the stated date. Paragraph 4: the sponsor's own employment and income. Signed and dated, with a phone number. No promises about the applicant's conduct beyond accommodation and support.
3. **Attach the sponsor's status and means** Copy of the UK passport or eVisa share code and residence status; 3 months of UK bank statements; 3 payslips or a P60 or company accounts; the tenancy agreement or mortgage statement and council tax bill showing the address and that there is room. A sponsor on a Student or Graduate visa should show that they can genuinely host.
4. **Show the applicant's employment or business** Salaried: employer letter on letterhead stating the post, the salary, the date of joining and approved leave with return date; 6 months of salary bank credits; Form 16 or the last 2 years of ITR acknowledgements. Business: GST registration, shop and establishment or Udyam certificate, 6 months of business bank statements, ITR for 2 years, and a letter from a CA. Farmers: jamabandi or land record (fard) from the Punjab land records portal, J-form receipts for crop sales, and arhtiya statements.
5. **Show property and family in India** Property: registry or sale deed, house tax receipt, or the fard. Family: marriage certificate, children's birth certificates and school letters, and a short note that the spouse or children are staying in India. A retired parent visiting a child in the UK shows pension credits, property, and other children or grandchildren in Punjab.
6. **Show previous travel and compliance** Old passports with visas and stamps for any country. A previous UK visa used and returned on time is the strongest single document. A previous refusal must be disclosed with the letter attached and a line explaining what changed.
7. **Keep the funds credible** Six months of bank statements with a balance that matches the income shown. No large deposits in the last month. Fixed deposits with receipts. The amount should cover the trip at UK prices for the stated days, not the whole balance of the family.
8. **Write a short cover letter** Half a page: who you are, why you are visiting, for how long, who is paying, why you will return. Reference the documents by number. This is the first page the officer reads.
9. **Do not do these** Do not submit a sponsor letter that invites 'for any period', promises the applicant will not work, or offers to pay for a marriage. Do not buy tickets before the decision. Do not show funds that appeared last week. Do not leave a 6-month gap in employment unexplained. Do not submit a family of five's documents under one person's funds without saying who pays for whom.

## FAQ
**Does the UK sponsor need to earn a minimum amount?**
No. There is no fixed income threshold for visitor sponsors. The officer checks that the sponsor can realistically support the visit, so bank statements and payslips should match the promise in the letter.

**Can my son on a Student visa sponsor my visit?**
Yes. He shows his status, his accommodation and his funds. Because students have limited means, parents usually show their own funds and the student letter covers accommodation only.

**I am a farmer with no salary slips. What do I show?**
The fard from the Punjab land record portal, J-forms for crop sales, arhtiya ledger statements, bank credits from mandi sales, and property documents. Land that you farm yourself is a strong tie.

**Is an invitation letter the same as a sponsor letter?**
An invitation says come and stay with me. A sponsor letter adds that the sponsor pays, and attaches the sponsor's means. Use whichever is true. Do not claim sponsorship if the applicant is paying.

**Will a refusal in 2024 stop me now?**
No. Visitor refusals have no ban unless deception was found. Disclose it, address the paragraph cited, and change what was wrong, usually ties or funds. Our refusal decoder explains each paragraph.

**How long a visit should I ask for?**
The visa normally allows up to 6 months per visit, but ask for the period you actually plan, with leave approval or business cover for those dates. Asking for 6 months with 15 days of approved leave contradicts your own file.
